Solidarity stands at the very core of our actions. Therefore, we aim to reframe the prevalent narrative about people on the move from “people in need” to “resilient and talented individuals”. We deeply believe that every person is the expert of their own life. Everyone knows best what it is they need. In consequence, we work with people at eye-level by providing spaces in which they can implement their own ideas and create the solutions they envision. Trust lies at the base of everything we do and in order to foster and protect it, we hold ourselves to high standards of transparency and fairness. In Habibi.Works, people not only create products and regain agency, but they also build community and a sense of belonging. Since the beginnings of the project in 2016, Habibi.Works has proven that challenges around migration can be tackled with a resourceful, constructive approach.
We work towards a world in which every person has equal access to opportunities. The borders of countries mustn’t be limitations for people’s search for safety, freedom and a chance to thrive. We want to live in a world that allows people to unfold their potential and that protects their dignity.
Through our many workshops and working areas, Habibi.Works aims to support the participants in
- the improvement of their current living conditions
- accessing non formal education
- their well-being and mental health
- first steps of integration
Besides our direct involvement, it is our declared goal to present counterpoints to the public and populist narratives around border justice and people on the move.
